  Features of operation of a roller bit with rock superbreaking down

Operation of a roller bit with superbreaking down (overbreak) or the locked up spalling of rock at well boring, is grounded on scientific established fact, that rocks destroyed by a roller bit in the majority have unique properties: very strong resistance to a compression failure and, rather, easy resistance to breaking down - at curving and extension.

   
   To use while drilling unique properties of rocks at their breaking down mechanically, it is necessary to count with mathematical fidelity, both arrangement of a teeth for surfaces of milling cutters, and geometrical arguments of milling cutters and the straight bit, it agree the patent of the USA for № 7 195 086 from March, 27th, 2007


   The drilled out swaft of a serial roller bit with a uniform pitch between a teeth of milling cutters (above) and the experimental straight bit, that is, the same serial straight bit, but upgraded from 30 % the locked up spalling and not a uniform pitch of a teeth (below). Experimental roller bits at boring at the expense of superbreaking down diminish finely dispersed component of a swaft in 2 times and augment a large component of the drilled out swaft - in 5 and more times.


   Imprints of formation of screw racks on metallical working face of traditional roller bits with a uniform pitch between a teeth of milling cutters. Formation of screw racks on borehole bottom at boring by roller bits with a uniform pitch between a teeth is one of the principal reasons of an essential abatement of a drilling efficiency.


   Imprints of working face, the same serial roller bit, but upgraded from 30 % the locked up spalling and not a uniform pitch between a teeth of the milling cutters, allowing at boring to expel formation of screw racks on borehole bottom and mathematical, calculated by, according to a stability of mucks to optimise superbreaking down, that is, the locked up spalling, it agree the patent of the USA for № 7195086.


   In drawing key parametres of a roller bit used for calculation of velocity and a vector of a direction of slip concerning borehole bottom of each tooth of a roller bit and their co-ordinates of a hole coverage depending on turnovers of the straight bit are displayed; definition of an angle of an instant spinning ax of the milling cutter and the maximum angle of drift; calculation of optimisation of superrock breaking by each tooth according to a rock hardness; definition of the maximum magnitude of vertical power amplitude of the throw instigating a harmful vertical sympathetic vibration of the straight bit at boring, etc., parametres, at dynamic interacting of a roller bit with borehole bottom while drilling.


   In difference from in certain straight bits with a uniform pitch, the roller bit with superbreaking down has not uniform pitches between a teeth with the arranged in sequence increment of their length for all frame sets of the milling cutter. The beginnings thus of minimum pitches of all frame sets of the milling cutter start from one line 113.


   At borehole bottom breaking down by serial straight bits with a uniform pitch, bulk (Volume) rock breakings down minimum as the spacing interval (Spasing) between the consecutive pairs, destroying working face, shocks of a teeth is - minimum, not big.


   At breaking down of borehole bottom by roller bits with superbreaking down (the locked up spalling) calculated by it is possible to optimise bulk (Volume) breakings down of rock from minimum to greatest possible for the produced rock hardness by variation of spacing intervals (Spasing) between the consecutive pairs, destroying working face shocks of a teeth.


   Rocks, it is not dependent on their stability {soft (Soft) formations, mean (Medium) or firm (Hard) formations}, have similar graphs of dependence of bulk (Volume), the destroyed working face from spacing interval (Spasing) between the calculated it agree patent solutions, pairs a teeth and their consecutive shocks about working face at its breaking down.


   Non-uniform pitches between a teeth of a frame set of the milling cutter with the arranged in sequence increment of their length on a frame set allow to ensure calculated persistence of optimisation of bulk of breaking down of rock depending on a rock hardness and the accepted system as face cleanings, and well depths. For exclusion of a harmful vertical sympathetic vibration of a roller bit a teeth of all frame sets on a milling cutter surface is arranged along generatrixs of 400 milling cutters.


   
   

INCREDIBLE NEWS


   Tested in practice of real drilling the scientific concept in developing of construction of new generation of rolling UBS - cutter (United States Patent No. 7195086) with overbreak while hole drilling, that simultaneously increase:
   - footage (m)       to + (2 - 2,5) times;
   - drilling speed       to + 55%;
   - bit work durability in hours       to+ 35%;
   by reduction of number of tungsten - carbide inserts to - 20% per bit, in comparison with uniform pitch between teeth of a serial bit, before its modernization for overbreak.
   
   Within 100 years after the rolling cutter was invented by Hughes (in 1909) all bit plants of the world produce the rolling cutters with uniform pitch between steel and tungsten - carbide inserts on cutter crowns of bits.
   Disadvantage of rolling cutters with uniform pitch between teeth is that bits while drilling make tracking in bottom hole, which significantly reduces: footage (m). drilling speed, bit work durability per hour, at the same time by increasing of number of tungsten - carbide inserts.
   
   It was noticed a long time ago, that variable pitch between inserts increase the efficiency of rolling cutters. In 1944 on National conference of petroleum technicians of former USSR the regulation "about using of variable pitch of rolling cutters for optimization of gas and oil well boring" was approved. The regulation of petroleum technicians was not fulfilled due to "manufacturing complexity" of variable pitches of rolling cutters, (see Ioannesyan R.A., Boring bits, National conference of petroleum technicians. M. Gostekhizdat 1952, pages 41-50). "Manufacturing complexity" is that variable pitches by their unscientifically proved calculation cause the damaging sympathetic vibration of a bit while well boring , which damages not only the rolling cutter, but also the equipment that ensures its performance. For example, an operator of a boring machine in a quarry must decelerate the rolling cutter quickly in order not to make sympathetic vibration damage the boring machine. That is the same that flutter in aircraft construction, when aircraft falls to pieces in air due to sympathetic vibration.
   In connection with this it is hard to believe but it is true:

   Bit plants of the world due to the absence of Cutter theory and scientific knowledge within 100 years oversaturate the cutters with uniform pitch between teeth with the expensive tungsten - carbide inserts that bring to using of more expensive bits. The cutters are literally "covered" with the expensive tungsten - carbide inserts and just so that footage in meters per bit while well drilling was 1,5-2,5 times less!!!
   The inventors A. Aaron and V. Lytvynenko solved the problem of "manufacturing complexity" of rolling cutters with variable pitch between inserts, based on using of overbreak during well drilling or so called in Russian - cutter bits with using of operated blocked spading (rolling UBS - cutter) during drilling (See the United States Patent under No. 7195086 and in Russia - the Eurasian Patent No. 8562 dated on June 29, 2007 and on web site: www.bit.krivbassinfo.com.
   In every bit factory manufacturing of rolling UBS - cutters within a quarter can be developed. Unfortunately according to United States Patent No. 7195086 the new generation of rolling UBS - cutters is hardly developed by bit factories of the world by reason of difficulty of developing conception without KNOW-HOWs of inventors.
   After personal meetings of inventors with specialists of companies of the USA: "VAREL", "SMITH", "HALLIBURTON" and "HUGHES CHRISTENSEN" they were faced with temporary incomprehension of efficiency of rolling UBS - cutters. In Russia the inventors were also temporary misunderstood by the specialists in the cutter field of bit factories "Volgaburmash" and "Uralburmash".
   Thanks to the support from the side of rolling cutter consumer "UK Metalloinvest" Ltd from September 11, 2008 to September 20, 2008 in the quarry of Lebedinskiy ore dressing complex comparison tests of experimental improved rolling cutters with 30% of operated blocked spading and serial bits 244,5 OK-nTB with uniform pitch were performed before they were improved to be assigned for operated blocked spading,
   which displayed the simultaneous increase of:
   - the footage (m)       to + 83% (practically by 2 times);.
   - boring speed       to + 50,5%;.
   - bit work durability in hours       to+ 22,5%;.
   in addition the number of tungsten - carbide cutting structure was reduced (80 gr/ bit).
   That means that using the KNOW-HOW of the inventors and computational strategy of rolling UBS - design and supply to the customers with optimal rolling cutters with 30% operated blocked spading for each specific mining-and-geological and technological - engineering conditions while drilling bottom holes of oil, gas, etc., which ensures reducing of span time as well as construction costs of oil-gas bottom holes.
   The availability of information about fact of creation of new rolling cutters with 30% operated blocked spading by customers, consumers and buyers is of decisive importance for its faster application while drilling bottom holes of oil, gas, etc.
   The buyer of rolling cutters has a right to assert for the manufacturer purchasing of quality bits on the basis of availability of reliable information about practical creation of new generation of cutter rock destruction tools with using of rolling UBS - cutters. As the saying is "He who pays orders the music".
   On the basis of information about rolling UBS - cutters the customer, buyer, can understand and realize, if the rolling cutter has uniform pitch, it is already an outdated construction by each innovations on the part of promoting bit quality by bit manufacturer of each country of the world.
   For example: using in the serial rolling cutters with uniform pitch between teeth: ultra strong teeth, steel, change of angle and inclination of cutting bit of teeth, increased teeth overhand in the middle part of roller cone etc.
   All these innovations are relative! If serial bit will be redesigned for the operated blocked spading, for example, with super strong teeth, then above mentioned efficiency of rolling cutters with 30% operated blocked spading will also take place during practically comparable tests concerning the same super strong teeth with uniform pitch of serial bits.
   While manufacturers of the USA, Canada, China, Japan, Scandinavian countries etc. will be in thrall to distrust and will be skeptical about efficiency of patent solutions, Russia has a real chance to become the first to use the new high efficiency generation of roller cutter drilling tool with operated blocked spading breaking during hole drilling while drilling bottom holes of oil, gas, blast holes .
   
   Summary
   Blocked spading (BS) - is a spading of rock onto free plane. Figuratively speaking, to facilitate the work people dig up the vegetable garden using only blocked spading. At the beginning of digging up the spade enters the ground hard till the whole spade enters the ground. Cutting, splitting ground layer to free plane of ground in such a way performs the easy process of digging up.
   Operated blocked spading (UBS) - is that what people do when they dig out their vegetable gardens, plots, wells etc., i.e. depending on ground hardness they regulate thickness of cutting ground layer while digging out.
   During one hundred years the rolling cutters with uniform pitch as if for the first time and constantly "begin to dig up" the hole bottom that causes the increased energy consumption for the bottomhole destruction while drilling of holes and forming while drilling the minimal, highly dispersed value of fracture of bit cuttings.
   Depending on hardness of cutting rock the rolling UBS - cutters can change value of fracture of bit cuttings with each necessary control accuracy thanks to mathematical calculation of positioning of variable pitches in bit design phase, which predetermines maximal efficiency for drilling of bottomholes for this hardness of cutting rock in comparison with rolling cutters with uniform pitches.
